HEFMA 2014 Conference

HEFMAThe Health Estate Facilities Management Association (HefmA) was formed in the early 1990’s as a branch based network of Estates and Facilities Professionals working in the NHS.
The group annually organises a conference to look at overseas neighbours and the worldwide group of health estates. This conference has the aim to compare with other health estates and facilities professionals and how they approach familiar issues. The main goal is to seek mutual benefit. The HEFMA conference will be organised from the 14th of May until the 16th in the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel.

Clarke Energy will be exhibiting at this conference to show how facilities can improve their energy efficiency. The company has supplied 92.62MW of combined heat and power (CHP) plants working on natural gas, to hospital institutions. In a CHP configuration, the electricity is being used for power purposes, whereas the excess heat from this process can be used for heating the local area. Another configuration interesting for hospitals, is trigeneration. This includes the electricity and heat from the CHP engine, but also produces cold water, using an absorption chiller. It could be then used for air-conditioning or refrigeration. Especially in healthcare situations it is of utmost importance that power shortages do not occur and power generation keeps going, self-generation with CHP engines can help deliver reliability of supply. Healthcare environments are mostly high energy consumers. Improving the efficiency in these sectors, could have great beneficial effects.
