The South African Sugar Technologists’ Association is the organisation for individuals that are interested in the technical aspects of the sugar industry in South Africa. This industry is doing very well in South Africa as well as worldwide. It is a big sector that also has to deal with high energy costs. Due to unreliable grids in Africa, other ways to produce power are of much interest.
Sugar mills burn their bagasse in suspension fired boilers to produce steam and power for their own needs. Where the opportunities exist, where molasses fermentation plants and distilleries are attached to sugar mills vinasse may be anaerobically digested to yield biogas for conversion to electricity using our engines.
Clarke Energy will be exhibiting at The South Africa Sugar Technologist Association Congress at the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg 20 – 22 August. We can show you how to improve your energy efficiency on-site.
