GlaxoSmithKline Captive Power Plant, Agbara, Nigeria

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is a multinational pharmaceuticals company with operations in many countries across the globe. GSK’s main factory in Nigeria is at Agbara. As part of a major upgrade to the site, GSK placed an order with Clarke Energy to install and commission over 2MWe of gas powered generation capacity.

  • Location: Agbara, Nigeria
  • Gas engines: 2 x JGC 320 GS – NL
  • Electrical output: 2,126kW

Faced with the power supply problems that are currently associated with the Nigerian electricity grid, GSK was seeking to provide their own on-site power. GE’s gas engines are known for their reliability and robustness. This coupled with the in-country support from Clarke Energy, which focuses on the provision of reliable maintenance and comissioning support, a strong relationship was born.

GSK purchased two GE Jenbacher containerised generators, each with the ability to produce 1MW of electrical power. Coupled with this there is the potential to install additional heat recovery solutions in the future.
