Job Title: Senior Sales Engineer
Reporting to: Sector Lead – Microgrids & Data Centres
Location: Knowsley, with UK and overseas travel as required
Job Purpose:
As a Senior Sales Engineer, you will lead the identification, development, and conversion of high-value opportunities within the energy sector. Your technical expertise, commercial acumen, and consultative approach will position Clarke Energy as the supplier of choice for complex power generation and energy projects. This senior role requires initiative, strategic thinking, and the ability to build long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
The majority of your time will be spent engaging with customers, shaping tailored technical solutions, and closing deals that align with our business objectives—while embodying Clarke Energy’s core values.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Strategic Sales
- Proactively identify and develop a strong pipeline of high-value prospects through:
- Direct engagement with energy-intensive organisations.
- Leveraging market intelligence, industry data, and strategic partnerships.
- Developing relationships with key consultants, influencers, and decision-makers.
- Lead customer engagement from first contact through to contract negotiation and close.
Client Engagement
- Promote Clarke Energy’s full solution offering and communicate technical differentiators to clients.
- Understand complex customer needs and tailor solutions that align with both technical and commercial requirements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, fostering deep relationships with clients and partners.
- Lead negotiations and close deals that are commercially sound and contractually acceptable.
Proposal & Bid Management
- Oversee the preparation of high-quality, customer-focused technical and commercial proposals.
- Guide and coordinate cross-functional inputs (engineering, legal, project management) to ensure proposals are accurate, timely, and competitive.
- Ensure all customer documentation and records are maintained in accordance with internal processes.
Market Insight & Reporting
- Conduct market, competitor, and regulatory research to identify trends and strategic opportunities.
- Provide regular input to sales forecasts, budgets, and strategic plans.
- Represent Clarke Energy at conferences, exhibitions, and industry events, including delivering technical presentations.
Mentorship & Team Contribution
- Mentor junior team members and support the development of technical sales capabilities across the team.
- Share best practices and contribute to a high-performance, knowledge-sharing culture within the Sales function.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure all activities align with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards applicable to the role.
- Promote ethical conduct and uphold the Clarke Energy Way in all external and internal dealings.
Technical/Professional Knowledge & Skills
- Deep technical knowledge of engineering solutions and applications within the energy sector.
- Strong understanding of the sales lifecycle for high-value, engineered projects.
- Proven project management and commercial negotiation capabilities.
- Skilled in preparing and delivering compelling presentations to technical and executive audiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

Required Experience:
- Internal: Minimum of 3–5 years in a Proposals or Technical Sales Engineering role, with a track record of success on high-value projects.
- External: Minimum of 5 years in Technical Sales within energy, industrial, or engineering sectors. Experience with capital equipment or turnkey projects is essential.
Desirable:
- Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Experience in the Energy, Waste, or Environmental sectors.
- Familiarity with CHP, renewable technologies, or decentralised energy systems.
