University of Southampton’s 2005 Energy Centre Receives Major Upgrades for Extended Lifetime Operation – Conversions, Modifications & Upgrades (CM&U).
Clarke Energy’s service and projects team is delivering major upgrades to the CHP plant for our longstanding customer, who we’ve supported since 2005. The upgraded system will continue to provide baseload power with full exhaust heat recovery, modernised to meet today’s performance and efficiency standards.
Originally installed 20 years ago, the two INNIO Group Jenbacher 420 gas engines have each clocked over 130,000 operating hours. Both engines received upgraded long blocks at our dedicated overhaul and repair centre, supported by balance-of-plant enhancements designed to extend engine life by up to 15 years, increasing reliability, improving efficiency, and enhancing energy resilience.
As Principal Contractor, we’re managing the full EPC scope, including the careful removal of the centre’s roof to enable equipment access with minimal disruption.
We’ve had a strong service relationship with the University since 2005, and it’s a pleasure to see our teams collaborating to deliver long-term value and futureproof their energy infrastructure. A huge thank you to our in-house overhaul and repair team, projects, and service – Jason Phillips, Jamie Prout, and Glen Adams. It’s fantastic to be working so closely with our customer to futureproof their critical infrastructure. Kate Fay
