Clarke Energy Launches Business in Papua New Guinea

Clarke Energy formally launched its business in Papua New Guinea (PNG) on the 12th of October at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Port Moresby. The residence has stunning views over Port Moresby bay and was a fitting location for this important industry gathering. The event was attended by a range of high profile guests and stakeholders from the PNG power sector. The gathering was addressed by His Excellency Simon Tonge, British High Commissioner to PNG, who welcomed Clarke Energy to the country. Simon discussed Clarke Energy’s presence on the previous year’s Developing Markets Associates UK-PNG trade mission where he first met team members from their UK and Australian operations. Simon also discussed his personal links to the Northwest of England where Clarke Energy started its business.

The welcome address was followed by a speech from Peter Loko who is the Country Leader from GE. Following last month’s announcement that GE had awarded Clarke Energy distributor and service provider status for their Jenbacher, Waukesha and diesel engine products in PNG, Peter outlined the basis of this successful relationship – GE providing excellence in power generation products and Clarke Energy providing added value through engineering, installation and maintenance. Clarke Energy is the largest distributor and service provider for GE’s reciprocating engines and PNG marks the 19th country on the list of regions officially served. Peter Loko presented Clarke Energy with their official distributor certificates for the country.

Clarke Energy’s Michael Jones proceeded to provide a presentation outlining Clarke Energy’s international experience in distributed power and how that can be successfully transferred to PNG. Clarke Energy has experience of many varied markets that can be used to support the delivery of reliable power to meet PNG’s growing needs. Clarke Energy has a policy of localisation and aims to train PNG nationals to the highest international standards in order for them to form the nucleus of the successful team. The country will be supported by Clarke Energy’s regional hub in Adelaide and can draw upon extensive engineering, procurement and construction skills along with maintenance and technical support.

Clarke Energy will be opening its new office in Port Moresby at the harbourside Stanley Esplanade and has employed Philip Miscandlon as PNG Sales Manager. Philip has extensive experience of the business environment in PNG and the wider South Pacific.

Clarke Energy would like to thank the British High Commission in PNG along with the Department for International Trade’s Hera Tonge for their support in delivering this event. Additional thanks go to all the guests for taking time out of their schedules to join us and making the event a resounding success.
