GE Announces Clarke Energy Cameroon Gas Engines Distributor

  • Sales and Services Agreement for GE’s Growing Gas Engines Presence in Africa
  • Clarke Energy to Enhance Local Service Excellence for GE’s Engine Customers
  • Initiative Supports GE and Clarke’s Strategy for Meeting Africa’s Demand for Distributed Power

YAOUNDÉ, CAMEROON—Seeking to ensure regional customer sales and services excellence for its growing gas engine technology portfolio in sub-Saharan Africa, GE’s Distributed Power business (NYSE: GE) today announced it has signed an agreement in Cameroon with U.K.-based Clarke Energy to serve as GE’s authorised distributor of Jenbacher gas engines. This agreement covers Jenbacher products and genuine service parts in Cameroon, including expert field service technicians and factory warranties.

The agreement comes as GE continues to rapidly expand its Jenbacher engine technology offerings in Africa. With hundreds of installations across the sub-Saharan region, Jenbacher gas engines offer customers needing power for their operations on-or-off the grid with reliable, efficient power generated by engines that can run on a wide variety of natural gas fuels, from biogas to coal-bed methane.

“Our new agreement with Clarke Energy will provide our customers in Cameroon with reliable service and parts support to give them peace of mind and help ensure they can concentrate on serving their own customers,” said George Njenga, sub-Saharan region leader for GE’s Distributed Power business. “Clarke Energy is a highly respected name in the region that provides customers with a life cycle of care, from design and installation through the lifetime service of the engine.”

Clarke Energy works closely with GE’s Distributed Power business in Africa, currently serving as an authorised Jenbacher distributor in the key African growth countries of Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Algeria and Tunisia. Clarke Energy currently services a 433–megawatt (MW) installed base across the sub-Saharan region and is well-prepared to meet Cameroon’s increasing need for more local power sources in its growing industrial and manufacturing centers. Cameroon continues to develop its infrastructure to support the commercialisation of its vast natural gas reserves, creating an opportunity for many industrial operations to shift to gas power. This offers operators reduced fuel costs and lower emissions compared to other fuel sources.

“The power needs in Cameroon will continue to change and grow, and we are excited to be part of this great country’s expansion of its industrial and manufacturing segments,” said Jamie Clarke, CEO of Clarke Energy. “Access to reliable power is critical for development, and we are here to partner with operators in Cameroon who want to grow their businesses with efficient equipment that is supported around the clock to ensure maximum performance.”

Clarke Energy has a consistent record of successful distributed power installations and plant life cycle maintenance in Africa:

This announcement comes one year after GE officially launched its Distributed Power business for sub-Saharan Africa in Lagos, Nigeria.
