The grid in Africa isn’t always stable, hence the need for other options to create power. Using renewables to produce energy could solve a big part of the ongoing energy issues. Clarke Energy has worked on several projects in the area. One of our ground-breaking projects in Kenya involved the supply of two containerised J420 engines at a farm near Lake Naivasha. These were the first two biogas engines Clarke Energy had installed in the sub-Saharan region. The biogas is derived from the agricultural waste from the farm. Working in a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) configuration, the electricity is used on the farm and the local area, whereas the heat is used to heat the greenhouses on the farm.
