In engleza: Cranswick PLC Food Manufacturing CHP Plant, UK

FTSE 250 company Cranswick PLC is one of the largest food producers in Britain, who have launched a sustainability strategy to become the world’s most sustainable meat business. The company’s largest site at Preston is in operation 24/7 and is heat and power intensive therefore Cranswick decided it wanted to make its energy infrastructure more competitive.

Clarke Energy worked in partnership with BasePower to design an on-site combined and heat and power (CHP) scheme that would comfortably fit into limited space and prove inaudible to neighbours located close to site. Among other noise-reducing techniques the fan set is placed low and noise emitters are directed away from neighbouring properties.

Clarke Energy engineered, installed and maintain a containerised, high efficiency Jenbacher 612 gas engine, to support the group’s business-wide sustainability initiatives. The 2.0MWe energy centre provides 66% of the site’s electricity and 80% of heat demand, whilst reducing carbon footprint by 500 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The CHP’s exhaust is used to generate steam via a containerised waste heat boiler for site manufacturing processes, offsetting gas boiler use. Heat from the CHP jacket is used to heat and store water at temperatures of 65 and 95ºC. This is used for sterilisation and sanitisation processes, providing a more efficient use of energy and thereby reducing cost and carbon emissions.
