Learning & Career Development

Our people are our power. Nothing is more important to our success than the skills, knowledge and passion of our current and future workforce. We strive to create an environment where every employee can reach their full potential, encouraging diversity, engagement and development.

Your individual growth is crucial to our success as a business. That’s why we invest every year in the learning and development of our employees – to ensure that our people have every opportunity to grow and progress both personally and professionally. We’ll encourage you to improve your knowledge and enhance your career by providing meaningful training and development.

Your development starts from day one with our in-depth induction programme which focusses on settling you into your position at Clarke Energy as quickly and effectively as possible. You will receive a structured plan detailing the key milestones you need to achieve to be successful in your role.

We also want you to understand how your role fits into our business. To do this, you will “Walk the Customer Path” by spending time in key departments, following the journey of our customers; if you are office based, this will include a site visit where you can see one of our engines up close.

Once you have settled into your role, you will benefit from a learning framework that makes sure we can anticipate and respond to the changing technical market and customer needs. Our training and development programmes raise the standards of competitive performance; develop business management and leadership skills; promote innovation; help people realise their potential; and contribute to increased customer satisfaction.

The business continues to grow rapidly which means that there are excellent opportunities for outstanding individuals of high integrity who are ambitious and prepared to apply themselves, with tailored talent programmes. Additionally, we offer financial support for higher education for employees who choose to pursue greater levels of academic achievement.

Career Development Stories

“Coming from a background in finance with little of experience of the energy sector, Clarke Energy has given me the tools to gain an in-depth understanding of both the company’s technical offering and the wider energy landscape globally. This has been done by insightful courses ran by our in-house training teams along with attending conferences and courses which had a focus on my own personal development. After a year of working for Clarke Energy I was nominated to take part in the Kohler NXT Programme, A leadership programme aimed at emerging leaders across the whole Kohler organisation. This has enabled me to work with senior members within Clarke Energy and Kohler to set out a clear career path and help identify what Is needed to reach my goals. Furthermore, this has also help me develop core skills which I now use both in my job and everyday life. My remit having international coverage has led to me being given the opportunity to travel to a number of countries including USA, Italy, France and Austria. This has helped me put my desk-based work into wider context and relevance to the Clarke Energy group of companies.”

Service Development Manager

“Working within Clarke Energy offers multiple opportunities to progress, both professionally and personally. I joined the Group in September 2016 as a Support Manager within our Maintenance Department.

In 2019, I was given the opportunity to lead the exploitation teams (85 people) while also integrating the Kohler NXT programme in parallel. This training programme, which is undoubtedly one of the most valuable I have undertaken during my 15-year career, takes place over an 18-month period. It offers significant opportunities for development, particularly through greater self-awareness of one’s strengths and areas for improvement. The programme also provides a broader understanding of the Kohler Group as a whole and actively encourages a culture of continuous improvement.

Following this progression, I moved into the role of Service Director, where I was responsible for overseeing service operations, team performance, customer satisfaction and operational efficiency across France. This role further strengthened my leadership capabilities and strategic oversight within the business.

In 2024, I was promoted to Managing Director for France, succeeding Didier Lartigue. This appointment reflects the trust placed in me by the Group and represents the next stage in my development within Clarke Energy. As Managing Director, I am responsible for leading the French business, driving performance, supporting our teams and ensuring we continue to deliver reliable, high-quality energy solutions to our customers.”

Managing Director France

“I joined Clarke Energy in 2014 as an Electrical Draughtsman after completing my Apprenticeship. After 2 years I was able to complete my HND in Electrical Engineering which has led to me becoming Junior Electrical Engineer. As part of my design training I was given the opportunity to work for the Clarke Energy office in Australia where I spent 12 months and got to experience the company on an international level. I then was able to return to Clarke Energy head office in the UK to continue my training in Electrical Engineering. In 2022, I became a fully qualified Electrical Engineer. ”

I started on a temporary contract in mid-2015 as an Accounts Assistant. The role was heavily transactional, primarily covering purchase ledger and sales ledger responsibilities. I gradually took on additional duties including customer compliance, National Statistics reporting and subsistence processing. I became permanent in December 2015 and remained in the Accounts Assistant role until early 2018.

At that point, I progressed to Assistant Accountant, where I was responsible for the Clarke Energy Tanzania management accounts while also supporting the UK management accounts. My responsibilities included P&L analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, VAT, payroll, banking, management and financial account preparation, as well as involvement in both the UK and Tanzania audits.

I remained Assistant Accountant until mid-2021, when I became the UK Management Accountant. In this role, I was responsible for producing the management accounts for Clarke Energy UK and managing a team of credit control and accounts assistants. The role built on my previous experience but with much greater depth and responsibility for the largest subsidiary within the Group.

In August 2021, I began my CIMA qualification and have since achieved first-time passes at Operational, Management and Strategic levels, successfully completing the full qualification. In 2025, I was promoted to Financial Controller – Management Reporting and Budgeting for the UK.
