Flour Mills of Nigeria, Captive Power Plant

Engine hall featuring numerous GE Jenbacher gas enginesThis is the world’s second largest flourmill and the pipeline natural gas fueled generating sets have been installed to provide all the site power, previously supplied by diesel based generation plant. The 9 x GE Jenbacher JGS620 gas engines are rated at 3.041MWe each and were installed during 2006 at the Flour Mills of Nigeria plant in Apapa, Lagos.

Clarke Energy supplied the generating sets and provided design and installation support to the site engineering staff prior to successful commissioning. During the tendering stage, detailed through life cost analysis carried out by the site technical staff resulted in a clear commercial advantage associated with these Jenbacher sets compared to competitor’s equipment.

Such was the operational success of the GE Jenbacher gensets that after the initial installation of 9 units an additional 2 were added to cope with forecast increase in island mode site power demand, bringing the total installed capacity to 33MW.
