Natural gas is a cleaner fossil fuel compared to coal, and India has set a target to raise its share in the energy mix from present 6.7 % to 15 % by 2030. India has been investing significantly in infrastructure projects such as gas pipelines, liquefied natural gas import terminals, and compressed natural gas stations to achieve this target. In addition to the infrastructure spend, fertiliser industry, refinery sector, and power sector would need to contribute. This could be achieved by augmenting domestic gas supply through diversifying energy sources.
Industrial customers are likely to switch to gas as climate change agenda takes centre stage. Similarly, commercial customers are likely to look for gas for trigeneration and cogeneration application.
Hydrogen is the smallest molecule in the universe, but has immense potential as a clean fuel for the green energy transition. Green Hydrogen has enormous potential to decarbonize several sectors including the power sector, reduce carbon emissions and achieve energy independence It is a gas that can be burned in an engine to produce electricity. Furthermore, green hydrogen can be used in microgrids, providing electricity to remote areas, and enabling energy independence.
