Clarke Energy Powering Energy Resilience in Partnership with Strike Energy at South Erregulla Peaking Power Plant

Powering Western Australia’s Energy Future

Construction is advancing on the South Erregulla 85MW Peaking Gas Power Plant at Arrowsmith East, Western Australia, a landmark project that will play a crucial role in strengthening the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) and supporting the state’s transition toward a lower-carbon energy future.

Developed by Strike Energy, this project combines a local gas fuel source with world-class generation technology to deliver reliable, on-demand power. As a trusted partner, Clarke Energy is supplying and delivering the high-efficiency Jenbacher gas engine generators from INNIO Group, that form the heart of this plant.

A Landmark Gas Peaking Project

At Clarke Energy we know that enabling sustainable and resilient energy is the right thing to do, it creates value for individuals, communities and businesses. Our proven portfolio of high-efficiency Jenbacher gas engines materially delivers on this promise.

The South Erregulla Power Station is the largest gas reciprocating engine power plant built to support the SWIS and is uniquely fuelled directly from nearby gas reserves. It also serves as a forerunner for future, even larger, gas-powered reciprocating plants that will support renewable energy systems, ensuring the grid remains reliable and responsive to complex demands.

Precision Logistics and Delivery Excellence

After five months of meticulous planning and coordination, 20 x Jenbacher J624 generators have now been successfully delivered to site.

Each 33.5-tonne Engine/TCM module was manufactured in Austria, secured within a purpose-built enclosure for break-bulk shipping and paired with 32.9 tonnes of alternator and accessories, packed separately in ISO40 open-top high-cube containers. The equipment travelled more than 19,200 kilometres across land and sea to reach Fremantle Port, Western Australia.

Clearing Fremantle customs, each module was carefully lifted onto low loaders for the final 350-kilometre journey to the South Erregulla site. In total, 1,330 tonnes of advanced power-generation and specialised lifting equipment were safely delivered; a ripped tarp standing as the only incident recorded throughout the entire logistics process.

This achievement showcases Clarke Energy’s capabilities in complex, large-scale projects, underpinned by world-class quality, safety, and uncompromising standards.

Building Resilience into Sustainability

As the energy transition accelerates, projects like South Erregulla highlight the vital role flexible gas generation plays in stabilising renewable-heavy grids. Clarke Energy is proud to be at the forefront of this evolution, integrating efficient, low-emission gas technologies into turnkey solutions that deliver on performance and reliability.

By supporting Strike Energy’s vision for a resilient, sustainable energy system, Clarke Energy is not only powering Western Australia’s future but helping to build energy resilience into the heart of sustainability for local, state and national communities alike. This project proudly reflects the principles outlined in Rehlko’s Powering Impact Report, showcasing our path for an energy-resilient world and a better future.
