Job Title: Graduate Process Safety Engineer
Reports To: Head of Electrical Engineering

Location: Knowsley, with UK and overseas travel as required
Job Purpose:
As a Graduate Process Safety Engineer at Clarke Energy, you will begin your career by supporting the identification, assessment, and management of risks within industrial processes, particularly in power generation and energy sectors. You will assist in ensuring compliance with safety standards, contribute to developing safety protocols, and learn to support initiatives that uphold Clarke Energy’s commitment to operational excellence and a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Support senior engineers in conducting hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), failure mode and effect analyses (FMEA), and other risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards.

Assist in maintaining process safety management systems to comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Help with investigations into process safety incidents by gathering data and supporting root cause analysis.

Participate in process safety audits and inspections under supervision to ensure adherence to protocols.

Support compliance efforts with local and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, COMAH, ISO).

Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate safety measures into project designs.
-
Assist in developing and delivering training materials related to process safety management.

Support emergency response planning and participate in drills.

Prepare basic reports and documentation on safety performance and incident reviews.

Engage in continuous learning and contribute ideas to improve process safety culture and systems.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
-
Recent graduate or soon-to-be graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related discipline.

Basic understanding of process safety principles and relevant safety regulations.

Familiarity with hazard analysis techniques such as HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, ATEX is desirable but not essential.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

A keen interest in developing technical knowledge in process safety engineering.
Desirable:

Internship or placement experience in process safety or related fields.

Awareness of safety standards and regulations applicable to energy or industrial sectors.

Enthusiasm for working in multidisciplinary teams and contributing to safety culture.
