MD Biogaz, a pioneer in the production of green gas in the Grand Est region of France, has inaugurated its biogenic CO
2 liquefaction unit which recovers biogenic CO
2 from biogas. The inauguration of ‘MD CO
2‘ took place at their methanisation site in Bar-sur-Seine in Aube on 24 June 2024.
The MD Biogaz site produces
biomethane from agricultural and agri-food organic waste. This renewable gas is then injected into the natural gas grid, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Biogenic CO
2, which comes from the anaerobic digestion process, is usually released into the atmosphere.
Thanks to an innovative biogenic CO2 liquefaction technology, provided by
Tecno Project Industriale (TPI) and installed by Clarke Energy, MD CO
2 is now able to capture and reuse this precious gas resource. 100% of the biogas produced is recycled and the liquefier captures 4,000 tonnes of biogenic CO
2 per year, which is then purified and marketed.

The biogenic CO
2 from the MD CO
2 unit has multiple applications in the food industry. It can be used by brewers for the carbonation of their beers, but also in solid form, such as dry ice for industrial cleaning or the transport of vaccines. The inauguration of the MD Biogaz site and the presentation of the biogenic CO
2 liquefier illustrate the dynamism and innovation of the green gas sector in France.
These innovative technologies significantly contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing the recovery of organic waste in France.
