Jenbacher Type 6 Gas Engines

High-efficiency, ‘Ready for H₂’* industrial engines delivering 2 – 4.5 MW of resilient, scalable power for complex energy projects.

Power, Performance & Reliability

INNIO Group’s Jenbacher Type 6 represents the pinnacle of high-output gas engine technology. Continuously refined and proven in thousands of installations worldwide, the Type 6 delivers excellent performance in the 2 to 4.5 MW power range. With a 1,500 rpm engine speed providing high power density and low installation costs, the Type 6 achieves high electrical and total efficiencies through its advanced pre-combustion chamber design. Enhanced components and a robust construction support reliability and long service intervals—up to 60,000 operating hours before major overhaul.

High Efficiency

The Jenbacher Type 6 engine series achieves electrical efficiencies of up to 47.1% and total efficiencies more than 90% in CHP applications, increasing fuel utilisation while reducing operating costs.

Lower Emissions

With advanced LEANOX® lean burn combustion control and a centrally located pre-combustion chamber, the Type 6 can deliver lower NOₓ emissions and stable operation even under challenging load conditions.

Proven Reliability

Type 6 engines have been delivered since 1989, reflecting decades of continuous improvement. Its robust design and enhanced components support dependable operation and extended service life.

Technical Highlights

Combining advanced thermodynamic and control features, the Jenbacher Type 6 provides reliable, high-efficiency performance:

  • Centrally located purged pre-combustion chamber allows for enhanced ignition conditions and stable combustion.
  • Spark plug ignition energy amplified in the pre-combustion chamber for improved ignition timing and efficiency.
  • Miller valve timing supports reduced compression temperature and increased safety margin against knocking.
  • Flexible heat recovery options, including two-stage oil plate heat exchangers, enhance thermal performance.
  • Electronically controlled gas dosing valve enables precise air-fuel ratio management for responsive control.
  • Low-pressure air/fuel mixture charging before turbocharging improves mixture uniformity and fuel flexibility.
  • Two-stage turbocharging technology (J624) delivers superior efficiency and flexibility under variable ambient conditions, enhancing output across the full operating range.
  • Ready for H₂’* design allows for future conversion to operate on up to 100% hydrogen.
