Clarke Energy Supports Groundbreaking of Soufflet Malt’s New Malting Facility in Gauteng

Clarke Energy’s team in South Africa recently had the honour of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Soufflet Malt Malting Facility in Midvaal, Gauteng. This event brought together key stakeholders to celebrate a truly significant achievement, more than eight years in the making.

Soufflet Malt, in partnership with The HEINEKEN Company, has developed this visionary project with a clear mission:
Grow and strengthen the local barley value chain in South Africa, and do so in the most sustainable, future‑focused way possible.

We are proud that Clarke Energy has been selected to design, engineer, supply and construct the energy centre for this landmark development.

The energy centre will feature:
🔸 Three high‑efficiency 1.5MW INNIO Group Jenbacher gas CHP gensets.
🔸 Two 6MW boilers.
🔸 Two 75,000‑litre hot water storage tanks.

Together, this integrated solution will supply all electricity and critical hot water requirements for the malting process—delivering reliability, efficiency, and sustainability at scale.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to life. We look forward to supporting Soufflet Malt and Heineken as this exciting development moves into the next phase.
