Clarke Energy and INNIO Participate in PowerGen India 2022 Exhibition

Clarke Energy’s offices in India alongside INNIO Jenbacher participated in PowerGen India 2022 Exhibition, held from 12-14th October 2022.  The event, which was held in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, saw a huge number of entrepreneurs and corporates showing interest in our diesel displacement and hydrogen to power solutions using INNIO’s Jenbacher gas engine technology.

Abhijit Rajguru – Deputy General Manager Marketing, Clarke Energy India said,

“Though natural gas is not as clean as wind or solar power, it is the cleanest fossil fuel—and is considered by many to be a key ingredient as the world transitions to a cleaner future. In India, natural gas pricing and utilization policy does not support use of domestic gas for captive power and/or cogeneration application and today, the base load use of gas gensets is limited to companies operating in the oil & gas industry space. Very recently, as per media reports, in North India (in specific to Delhi-NCR), the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) has limited the uninterrupted use of diesel generator for emergency purposes during the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) period. However, there will be no restrictions on gensets running fully on PNG, LPG, biogas, or propane. Clarke Energy’s offices in India can offer fully integrated solution for diesel displacement using INNIO’s Jenbacher gas engines running on either of the fuels.

These solutions are backed with a very strong after-sales-service setup spread across the country. India gas genset market recorded a declining trend over the past 2-3 years owing to various factors, one in our opinion being complex emission test approval procedure stipulated by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under notification GSR 281 (E ); making it difficult for technology providers to sell gas engines having capacity </= 800kWm and in unison increasing the cost of technology for end-users. Natural gas could help lower emissions, but its role in India’s climate strategy hinges on a series of policy initiatives, without which its role will continue to be marginal – one such initiative in our opinion being easing of the notification GSR 281 (E ), all with the intent of power generation sector contributing to the consumption of natural gas and market getting access to the right technology at a reasonable cost. The government should bring natural gas under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime to realise Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for a gas-based economy and raising the share of the environment-friendly fuel in India’s energy basket. With natural gas, it is imperative that we not just take the marginal fuel cost into consideration, but also factor in the added benefit in terms of air quality and health costs for the Indian population. He added that Clarke Energy’s offices in India are contemplating on use of hydrogen for natural gas blending projects, with blended gas being used in existing power generation installations, all with the intent of reducing carbon emissions”
