Powergen India & Central Asia was opened by P. Uma Shankar, the Indian Renewable Energy Secretary on the 5th of March. India plans to install over 17GW of renewable based power generation capacity between 2012 and 2017, requiring an investment of up to 1.5 trillion Rupees. Shankar said “India’s electricity demand is expected to increase from 900bn kWh to 1400bn kWh by March 2017. To meet this demand we will need a capacity addition of 100 GW during the next five year plan.
Due to this planned huge expansion of the electricity infrastructure in India there is huge potential for the utilisation of high efficiency & renewable generation utilising gas as a fuel source.
