In engleza: Mineral Resources Limited Selects Clarke Energy for Onslow Port Power Station

Mining company Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes) has chosen Clarke Energy as preferred partner for its new 14MW Onslow Port Power Station.

The gas power station will support all port related activities for MinRes’ planned Onslow Iron project – set to unlock 30 million tonnes per annum of iron ore in the West Pilbara – with ore to be transported by a private road to the Port of Ashburton, then ferried by transhipping vessels to bulk ore carriers and onwards to international markets.

For MinRes, the selection process for the Onslow Port Power Station prioritised cutting-edge technology, short lead times and reliability. Clarke Energy met these stringent requirements with a powerhouse design featuring nine newly released Jenbacher J420 E105 generators and two Kohler 550kVA standby diesel generators for emergency power.

The E series INNIO Jenbacher generator boasts a compact footprint delivering 1558kWe, unique maintenance features, class-leading efficiency and extended 40/80k hour service intervals.

The engine is uniquely future proofed for hydrogen and like all new Jenbacher series 4 engines, can operate up to 25% blended H2/CH4 without the need for retrofits or special orders.

For companies seeking an easy transition to cleaner hydrogen fuel in the future, 100% H2 operation is achieved with a direct injection upfit.

Given the projected 20-year life of the offsite mine, and the disruptive coastal conditions and Category D winds of the Onslow Port, MinRes required a powerhouse solution that would address a range of project-specific challenges.

MinRes Executive General Manager of Energy, Shelley Robertson, said the company needed to prepare for the future.

“Contracting Clarke Energy to design and supply our power station ensures we now have consistent, affordable, and reliable generation assets to meet our current and future energy needs.’

General Manager for Energy Operations and Development, Rowan Hill, said that considering supply chain and inflationary pressures, MinRes recognised the unique ability of Clarke Energy to fast-track procurement and engineering timeframes, thereby reducing significant commercial and technical risks.

Clarke Energy has been flexible and responsive in meeting the constraints of our project. The team’s capability, along with the unrivalled fleet experience of the J420, made it an easy choice for MinRes.”

Clarke Energy General Manager – Product, Michael Jones, welcomed MinRes to Clarke Energy’s client base and looks forward to supporting the new fleet through its long lifecycle.

“It is a pleasure to add such a progressive miner to our remote power generation fleet, and we look forward to providing MinRes with the highest reliability on the most proven gas engine model available in the market.”
