Job Title: Small Works Engineer
Function: Projects
Reporting to: Directly report to the Project Engineering Manager. Functionally report to Project Managers and Project Planners / Quality Engineers.
Scope: Clarke Energy Ltd
Location: UK, with possible overseas
Job Purpose: Deliver the assigned construction and engineering projects successfully at whilst conforming to time, scope and quality requirements.
Majority of time spent: Knowsley office with some working away

Responsibilities:

As projects/contracts are increasingly more complex, there are consistently a number of small sub-projects that fall outside normal Project Management / Project Engineering/Management day-to-day works.  These works are by their very nature reactive rather than planned, and need instant time and focus as they carry financial/reputational risk particularly when related to asset downtime.  An examples of such work would be revisiting site for latent defect works within a defects liability period.

  • Manage and ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental standards are always understood and adhered to.
  • Manage the assigned small works packages, conforming to scope, budget, time and quality requirements.
  • Act as the client’s primary focus on a day-to-day basis, acting in a professional and courteous manner, and reporting any relevant interactions internally.
  • Raise Purchase Orders on subcontract packages and consumables.
  • Ensure timely request, review and submission of RAMS.
  • Create lookahead programmes and drive the works to timely completion.
  • Create and manage trackers, noting the progress of works and assigning and chasing actions.
  • Manage subcontractors and their works, challenging any cost, scope, progress, safety or quality issues, and reorganising works where appropriate.
  • Take charge of project logistics ahead of time, co-ordinating deliveries and plant movement, taking into account site conditions and offload requirements to ensure that goods and materials are installed safely and on programme.
  • Write detailed reports and updates for the Project Engineering Manager and other project departmental heads.
  • Collate and submit accurate project documentation, including but not limited to As-Built drawings, calibration and test certificates, and commissioning records.
  • Suggest and implement cost-effective solutions and proposals, acting as the focal point for unexpected technical difficulties and other problems, ensuring that they are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders either in person or on-line.  Where appropriate, schedule and act as chair, taking minutes and assigning actions.

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Experience within a relevant discipline, such as construction, electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Good understanding of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
  • Good IT skills – Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project, Teams, able to communicate and use VPN, video conferencing and mobile platforms.
  • Knowledge of current ‘Construction (Design and Management) Regulations’
  • Project Management
  • Basic coaching and negotiation skills

Essential:

  • Can demonstrate transferable skills to fulfil a Project Management role
  • Supervisory experience
  • A background in construction and / or electrical / mechanical engineering.
  • Good understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work away from home as required.

Desirable:

  • Project Management experience
  • Site management experience.
  • CSCS card holder
  • Experience in a related discipline e.g. – boilers, HV systems, quantity surveying, CAD, planning, SCADA, BMS.
  • IOSH / SMSTS qualified
  • Degree / HND / HNC in Engineering
