Job Title: Sector Manager – Peaking and BESS
Reports to: Sales Director – UK and Ireland

Location: Knowsley with UK and Overseas Travel as required
Job Purpose: Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to accelerate the growth of energy storage and peaking applications. This role combines strategic market and project development, and technical leadership, requiring a deep understanding of established technologies and the evolving energy landscape.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Sector Leadership:
- Develop and lead Clarke Energy’s Peaking & Energy Storage business strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and market trends.
- Set short-term and long-term goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and a roadmap for market growth within the energy storage and peaking space.
- Act as the company’s subject matter expert on energy storage and gas peaking technologies, providing leadership in innovation, market positioning, and regulatory trends.
Business Development:
- Identify and pursue business opportunities in energy storage as well as gas peaking applications for power generation.
- Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders including funders, renewable energy developers, government agencies, and technology partners.
- Lead efforts to expand the company’s customer base where storage and gas peakers are viable energy solutions.
Project Development:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of storage and gas peaking-related tender responses and proposals, ensuring they are completed on time, and meet technical specifications and commercial requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams to ensure successful deployment of energy storage and gas peaking infrastructure projects.
- Implement best practices in project management, risk assessment, and resource allocation to ensure successful project outcomes.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide deep technical expertise in energy storage and gas-to-power technologies.
- Advise on integration into existing power generation systems and distributed energy networks.
- Lead feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations of energy storage and gas peaking opportunities.
Market Strategy & Analysis:
- Conduct market research and analysis to track the development of the storage and peaking applications, regulatory policies, and competitive landscape.
- Develop and execute sector-specific strategies for positioning Clarke Energy as a leader in the deployment of energy storage and gas peaking projects.
- Identify and capitalize on funding opportunities, incentives, and partnerships that support the development of these applications.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, sales and business development professionals within the relevant sector.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence across the team.
- Ensure continuous learning and development within the team to stay ahead of technology trends and regulatory changes.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure that all projects comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements.
- Stay informed of changes in regulatory frameworks, subsidies, and government policies that impact technological adoption.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage sector budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business planning and proposal preparation.
- Monitor project and sector financial performance, ensuring that profitability and return on investment (ROI) targets are met.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements across projects and operations.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring their needs are met through innovative and sustainable energy solutions.
- Engage with industry forums, conferences, and events to promote Clarke Energy’s expertise and influence policy development.
Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in the power generation industry, with a focus on peaking power plants, energy storage systems, or renewable energy.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale energy storage or peaking generation projects.
- Strong understanding of the energy market, grid operations, and utility regulations.
- Exceptional leadership, team management, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyse market trends and identify business opportunities.
- Financial acumen, with experience in managing P&L, budgets, and financial models.
- Knowledge of emerging energy technologies and innovations in energy storage systems.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with energy storage technologies (e.g., lithium-ion, flow batteries), energy management systems, and integration with the grid.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies and understanding of energy policies.
- Strong negotiation and client relationship management skills.
