Dalam Bahasa Inggris: Clarke Energy’s Corporate Values in Action in the Local Community

Clarke Energy has a reputation for ‘Global Reach with Local Focus’.

Clarke Energy has been contracted to design, procure, and construct a new power generation facility for Alinta Energy: the Newman Power Station 2 (NPS2), Mt Whaleback Mine to expand their existing power station. The NPS2 project comprises 14 x  Jenbacher J624 engines and associated balance of plant, for a total capacity of 61.67MWe. The engines will be installed in two separate power houses.

The scope of work includes design, construction (civil, mechanical, and electrical), testing and commissioning the new power generation facility. The scope also includes supply of a 66/11kV export transformer and brownfield integration with the existing 66kV substation.

Leanne Morris and the Clarke Energy team at NPS2, have demonstrated their local focus in very practical terms through their support of the local community – particularly the Newman Women’s Shelter in Western Australia.

To coincide with the recent observation of International Women’s Day (8 March), we spoke with Leanne about her community project and are sharing their story.

Newman Women’s Shelter provides a safe refuge for women and children affected by family and domestic violence and homelessness 24/7, 365 days a year. The Shelter’s mission is to “Support women and their families to break the cycle of family and domestic violence and associated homelessness through holistic support, empowerment and motivation to rebuild their lives.”  Read more about the Newman Woman’s Shelter here.

This year Leanne and her partner have personally purchased items for the Newman Women’s Shelter each month, putting them aside to transport to the Shelter.  With the support of Clarke Energy Australia, they have flown in more than 66kg worth of supplies to donate to the Shelter. The Clarke Energy team have also used money from recycling bottles from the site to purchase snacks, sweets, and drinks for the children at the Shelter as well as a cash donation from the head office of Clarke Energy Australia, to support this worthy cause.

As well as making a significant difference to the Shelter, a portion of the donations will also support tiny indigenous communities outside of Newman – extending the benefit.

While Leanne has been instrumental in several community projects during her time with Clarke Energy, this one is particularly personal to her.  Leanne, as a HSE Administrator with Clarke Energy, says “My maternal grandmother was 88 years old when her husband gave her, her final black eye. Had services such as Newman Women’s Shelter been accessible in her youth, my mother and I may not have been exposed to decades of abuse.”

“My story reiterates that domestic violence doesn’t solely exist within poorer communities or with a certain ethnicity. It crosses all divides.”

Domestic violence is unfortunately a growing issue in Australian society. It takes around seven attempts to leave a violent relationship; with one woman killed every week on average at the hands of her partner. Women’s refuge services are vital for domestic violence victims to seek help and safety.

Jay and Sylvia (pictured) are the incredible co-ordinators at the Newman Women’s Shelter. They have warm and caring personalities, ensuring vulnerable women and children at the shelter feel safe.

Jay says: “The Shelter is a not-for-profit group and relies on Government funding, corporate partnerships, grants and donations to be able to deliver the level of services required within the Newman community and surrounding communities.  Contributions like Leanne’s and the team from Clarke Energy go a long way to helping us deliver the services that we offer.”

Jeff Stevens, Site Construction Superintendent with Clarke Energy says, “We applaud the efforts of Leanne and the Clarke Energy team and their desire to make a difference within the local communities in which Clarke Energy is operating.  Their actions and service to help communities in need and shine a light on social issues, is a true demonstration of our corporate values at work in the local community.”
