Biogas-fuelled Combined Heat Power Plant Installed at SAS Demeter Energies

SAS Déméter Energies successfully inaugurated its first agricultural biogas plant in early 2018, which processes more than 20,000 tonnes of organic waste per year including manure, slurries and yards.

To create value from the 220 Nm3/h of biogas it produces, SAS Déméter Energies chose to install a combined heat and power (CHP) solution, which simultaneously produces renewable electricity and heat to be used in process

Clarke Energy’s performance guarantees against the requirements of the project, as well as the robustness of the BIOPACK 500 solution, were key criteria in SAS Déméter selecting Clarke Energy to supply, install, commission and maintain the CHP plant.

Biogas at the SAS Déméter plant is dried, processed and compressed to be used as fuel for the INNIO Jenbacher JMC312 gas engine. 499kW of electricity are injected on the ENEDIS network to be sold to EDF OA, under BG16 feeding tariff scheme, over the term of 20 years or 140,000 hours.

The 531 kWth of renewable thermal energy produced by the engine is used to heat the digesters, corn and alfalfa dryers at the site. It is also fed into the district heating network created by SAS Déméter Energies to heat the municipal buildings of Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon such as schools, colleges and the town hall.

A maintenance contract was taken out by Déméter Enegies with the added value to the customer of conducting a single major overhaul at 80,000 hours over the duration of the BG16 contract and, thereafter, allowing to produce on the merchant power market, during 20,000 hours.
