The press release from the UKTI is shown below:
‘Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Chris O’Connor, hosted a UKTI business seminar at his official Residence on 30 May. The event, which was held in collaboration with Clarke Energy, showcased the UK’s leading clean energy technology.
The seminar was organised by the British Embassy’s UKTI commercial team as an opportunity for Clarke Energy to showcase its expertise in clean energy and for Clarke Energy and its Tunisian customer Stunas Industries of Maklada Group to announce their collaboration. The event was also attended by Tunisian business leaders, members of the energy industry and public sector experts in energy and industry.
Clarke Energy is one of Europe’s top energy companies specialised in flexible power production through cogeneration (producing electricity and heat using gas engines). They specialise in ultra efficient use of natural gas, biogas, landfill gas or flare gas. Clarke Energy delivers turnkey power-generation projects around the globe, from the initial project conception and design to installation, commissioning and long term maintenance to guarantee optimisation of their power plants. Clarke Energy created its Tunisian subsidiary three years ago, which now effectively operates as the group’s regional hub for North Africa.
Clarke Energy and Stunas Industries signed a contract on 30 May for the supply of two 2MW cogeneration plants for two steel factories in central Tunisia.
Speaking on the new venture, Maklada General Manager said “we are confident we made the right choice to use Clarke Energy cogeneration to produce our own electricity on two of our sites. One power plant will be installed in an existing factory and this new process will help us stop wasting good money on an expensive electricity bill. The second power plant will be installed in a factory we are currently building and not connected to the electricity grid, so we will be completely self-reliant in terms of electricity supply. The cogeneration process will also give us the very cold water needed to cool down our steel products and the heat to dry them up as well as the air conditioning for our warehouses.”
Cogeneration has become increasingly attractive with a line a credit from the World Bank to Tunisia. In the current challenging global economic climate, the flexible solutions made possible by Clarke Energy help businesses save on their energy bill and become more competitive in both their domestic market and for exports.
