Clarke Energy Powering New St Andrew’s Hospital During Difficult Times

Classified as essential work services by the Australian Government, Clarke Energy has completed the first major service of the St Andrew’s Hospital new development’s in Adelaide. The service of the combined INNIO Jenbacher / KOHLER power plant took place during the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak.

In 2018, Clarke Energy was asked to supply and commission the cogeneration plant and an emergency diesel generator for the $50 million Eastern Clinic expansion which has since been awarded the AIPM 2019 South Australian project winner in Construction/Engineering.

Clarke Energy was chosen for our ability to provide optimum power solutions without the limitations of being a one-brand-only supplier. We responded with a powerful combination of world-class leaders.

For the cogeneration plant we designed the Jenbacher J312 gas engine cogeneration plant, packaged in a noise-attenuated container, which produces 526kWe of electricity to power the hospital, while the waste heat from the exhaust is harnessed to produce 480kg/h of steam to heat it.

We modified the standard design to locate the waste heat recovery steam boiler on a mezzanine platform above the container roof and installed the air radiator on the hospital’s roof.

Then we commissioned the crucial Kohler KX-880C diesel generator to provide emergency backup generation for the hospital’s critical electrical loads during power outages.

Following two years of reliable operation, the power plant was due for its first major service at the challenging time of the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Unfazed, Clarke Energy’s service technician, Jason Rose completed the service delivering his essential work while maintaining stringent hygiene measures and social distancing.

During the month of April, Clarke Energy serviced over 20 power generation sites across multiple states and territories throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Nothing will take the power away from Clarke Energy servicing our clients.
