The Holbeach Biogas AD facility is a joint venture between Tamar Energy and A H Worth. It was officially opened on 1st May by Asda’s CEO Andy Clarke.
The site, situated to the north of the town of Holbeach, processes around 30,000 tonnes of organic material per annum. Through anaerobic digestion, which is the natural decomposition of organic matter, biogas is being produced and used as a fuel to create energy.
The biogas is created in the digestion facility, mainly using vegetable trimmings and potato wastes from QV Foods operations.
Clarke Energy supplied the GE’s Jenbacher JGMC420 GS BL containerised engine for this project under a framework agreement with Tamar Energy. The plant has the capacity to create 1.5MW, which is the equivalent of powering 3,000 standard UK homes. Jenbacher engines work on the highest electrical efficiency within its power range. The Jenbacher gas engine is designed to run solely on different types of gas, and for different types of applications. Jenbacher has led the way in gas engine innovation over the last 50 years.
