Clarke Energy reaches 4GW milestone

KNOWSLEY, LIVERPOOL Clarke Energy has reached the important milestone of 4 gigawatts (4 GW) of installed generation capacity.

  • Clarke Energy has reached the milestone of 4GW of installed capacity in its 25th year of operation.
  • 4 GW is the equivalent of 10.5million homes1
  • These power plants include both renewable and low carbon developments

Clarke Energy and the companies which it has acquired now represent an installed base of over 4 GW. This generation capacity is deployed across 21 countries, including 16 countries across which the company is currently an authorised distributor and server provider for GE’s Jenbacher gas engines.

Clarke Energy, established in 1989 is a specialist in the engineering, installation and maintenance of gas-fuelled combined heat and power plants. Its installations include both renewable power plants – those using fuels including biogas, landfill gas and sewage gas, along with low carbon CHP facilities fuelled by natural gas, or the replacement of diesel generation capacity with coal bed methane.

4 GW of distributed generation represents an enormous number of installations. With individual projects ranging from 0.3-90 MW this figure represents many thousands of installations. Assuming a typical household electricity demand of 3.3 MWh this is equivalent to over 10.5 million homes.

The countries where Clarke Energy has installed the most capacity include the UK, France, and Bangladesh[2], with all three approaching 1 GW of installed capacity. Significant future potential is shown in the African segments with major project deals in 2014 including the largest permanent gas engine IPP in Mozambique. The company also continues to make progress in Australia, where it signed a major deal to provide a temporary power plant for the APLNG project.

Clarke Energy has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with seven years year on year turnover growth. The company has also being presented with numerous awards including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade in 2014, the British Renewable Energy Award for Innovation 2014 and Business of the Year for Liverpool City Region.
