Quadgeneration – Knockmore Hill Quadgeneration Plant

ContourGlobal is a US corporation which specialises in development of energy assets around the world. The ContourGlobal Knockmore facility is a quadgeneration plant producing electricity, steam, chilled water and food-grade CO2. The Knockmore plant provides its four outputs to the adjacent Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company’s single Ireland production site.

Located in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Knockmore Hill quadgeneration plant has a total installed capacity of 15MWe and 13.5MWt from 5 GE Jenbacher JMS 620 GS-NL gas engine generators.

Clarke Energy was selected by ContourGlobal to provide the required engineering, procurement & construction on a turnkey basis. The Clarke Energy scope included the provision of a structure to house the plant together with the installation and integration of the 4 production streams. GE Jenbacher gas engines are used to generate electricity with the rejected heat from the exhaust used to make process steam for the adjacent bottling plant. Further rejected heat is recovered in the form of hot water and fed to three absorption chillers which provide chilled water to the adjacent bottling plant. Finally the exhaust gas is treated to reduce NOx, oxidise CO into CO2 and then the CO2 is removed from the exhaust and refined in the quadgeneration plant to produce food grade CO2 for the carbonation of beverages bottled in the adjacent plant.

Clarke Energy provides the customer’s operation and maintenance team with parts and service support.
