Baxter Healthcare, Combined Heat & Power Facility, Ireland

Baxter Healthcare, employing over 1,200 people in Ireland produces pharmaceutical grade water for injection (WFI) at their production facility in Castlebar.

Due to the high usage of electricity, hot water and steam, it was clear that combined heat & power / cogeneration was a viable option for the site. In what was a full turnkey project, Clarke Energy installed an energy centre that included two GE Jenbacher natural gas fuelled engines – A JMS 612 GS-NL which produces 2MWe and a JMS 416 GS-NL which produces 1.1MWe. The energy centre also provides the site with 1,630kWt of low temperature hot water using heat recovered from the engines as well as 1,660 kilogrammes per hour of steam at a pressure of 7 bar by feeding the exhaust gas from the two engines into a waste heat steam boiler.

Clarke Energy provides the customer with service support via a ten year comprehensive maintenance contract. This year overall engine availability has been at 99.1%
